Cambridge Diet

What is the Cambridge Diet?

Let’s start with a little history of how the Cambridge Diet was created, who created it and when.

History Of The Cambridge Diet

The creator of Cambridge Wieght Plan was Dr Alan Howard. His research into Obesity dates back to the 1960’s, where in 1967 he became secretary to the Obesity Association.

Further research in the 1970’s focusing on the morbidly obese, lead to producing a diet product, which later became Cambridge Weight Plan.

Dr Alan Howard

In 1982 Dr Howard formed the Howard Foundation, and then in 1984, Cambridge Weight Plan was born.

Since 1986 the company has been located within Corby, and in 2014 the business became employee owned.

In 2019 the company won the award of: Employee Owned Business of the Year Award

Dr Alan Howard died in 2020 at the age of 91.

His legacy continues today. Cambridge Weight Plan is still helping thousands upon thousands of people to change their lives. Helping thousands to lose weight, and trying to help them reverse Type 2 Diabetes. Helping people to adopt to a new healthier and fitter lifestyle. As well as delivering educational information about nutrition to aid in weight loss management.

The 1:1 Diet – (Previously The Cambridge Diet)

The 1:1 Diet by Cambridge Weight Plan

In 2018 the business went through a re-branding and became, The 1:1 Diet by Cambridge Weight Plan.

As the main focus of the diet has always been based upon the personalised One2One Support offered from the diet consultants, it seemed a logical choice for the new re-branded name.

The 1:1 Diet is not only available throughout the UK and Northern Ireland, but now the diet is available worldwide.

  • Europe includes, (but not limited to): Germany, Austria, Portugal, Denmark, Greece, Spain, Poland, Finland and Sweden.
  • Australasia
  • Africa
  • Cental and South America
  • Middle East
  • South and South East Asia

So that’s the background sorted. Now let’s find out more about how it all works, and more importantly, what the real benefits are.

The Step Plans

Unlike most diet plan’s, the Cambridge Diet, (known today as, The 1:1 Diet), has a number of individual step plan’s to follow throughout your journey.

Again, unlike most others, it’s medically backed and scientifically proven to work.

Every potential client has to complete an enrolment form. It’s a short questionnaire about your current health conditions, and if any, what medications you currently take.

Depending upon your answers, you’ll be allocated a starting step plan that suits your current health conditions, and your weight-loss goals.

Each step plan has a set amount of daily calories, which are broken down throughout the day into meal size portions, by using Meal Replacement Products.

Each being about 200 calories each. You may also have some meals with everyday food as part of your plan, depending upon which step you are doing.

Meal Replacement Products

There is vast range of meal replacement products to choose from, including the obvious shakes and Smoothie’s. Below you’ll see some of the choices you can make.

  • Shakes (8 to choose from)
  • Smoothie’s (3 to choose from)
  • Savoury Meals (6 to choose from)
  • Soups (5 to choose from)
  • Shake n Go (3 to choose from)
  • Step Up Meals (6 to choose from)
  • Porridge (4 to choose from)
  • Bars (9 to choose from)
  • Bites (3 to choose from)
  • Snacks (3 to choose from)
  • Water Flavourings (7 to choose from)

The above variety of products offers your weight-loss journey a discovery of flavours to tantalise your taste buds. With Meals replacements based on, Chinese, Asian, Indian and British culinary culture, the choice of meals caters for almost everyone’s tastes and requirements.

The vast majority of the products are suitable for both vegetarian and halal diets. Your diet consultant will be able to advise to as to the suitability of each product, including information in relation to any allergies and/or intolerances.

So we now know when and who created the Cambridge Diet. We know about the step plan’s, and a little about how they work, and the vast choice of meal replacement products available. But what we need to know is how this diet helps you to lose weight, and ultimately maintain those losses long-term.

How The 1:1 Diet Helps You Lose Weight

As with any diet, weight-loss is achieved through calorie deficit. The 1:1 Diet is no different in that respect.

By following your step plan, you will be allocated an exact amount of daily calories to consume. That calorie allowance will depends upon the step plan you are following, and as this diet is medically backed, that plan will be different for every individual.

There are 6 step plans in total, with step 1 being split into 2 parts (A & B) Each step represents a daily calorie allowance, made up of either sole source meal replacement products, or a combination of products and regular food.

Daily calories vary between 600 to 1500 (step dependent). Each product in the range has all of the essential nutrients, (26), the body needs, each meal/produce is fully balanced and offers a healthy way to lose excess weight.

And with over 37 years of real world data, from thousands upon thousands of dieters successfully shredding pound after pound, year after year, numerous clinical research projects to authenticate the effectiveness of the diet, the answer to the question, “Does it work”? Is an an outstanding YES!

Not only are the products completely nutrionally balanced, but they are also high in protein.

Protein helps keep the hunger at bay, allowing you to diet without the uncomfortability of hunger getting in your way, and sabotaging your journey.

Protein also helps you retain muscle throughout your journey, and helps the calorie deficit to concentrate on burning fat.

Ketosis

When you are on a VLCD, (Very Low Calorie Diet), the body can, but not always, enter a state of KETOSIS.

Ketosis is when the body has restrictions of carbohydrates. It then produces additional ketones to use as a fuel source, instead of the carbohydrates.

One of the benefits of Ketogenic diet, is that you tend to burn fat faster. The 1:1 Diet is not generally classified as a Ketogenic diet, as weight-loss tends to be greater on the Cambridge Diet, with or without entering the state of ketosis.

Exercise

Exercise Is not a requirement of this diet. In fact for the first two weeks it is advised not to do any over-strenuous exercises at all. Just let your body adapt to the new routine.

Thereafter, whilst not required, doing some strength or resistance training will aid muscle retention. This will also help with your weight loss journey.

One of the best exercises you can employ whilst on this diet, is that of walking. Add 30, maybe 45 minutes of walking per day. Mix it up a bit. Alternate regular walking and brisk walking, just get the heart pumping a little faster for added benefit.

Exercise benefits weight-loss by helping to increase metabolism. (Remember to check out with your doctor before embarking upon a new diet or exercise routine, especially if you suffer from any health related problems, such as heart related issues).

One2One Support

A major feature of the diet is the personalised 121 support you receive from your diet consultant.  For decades the support received from the Cambridge consultants, has made the difference between success and failure, for thousands of clients.

This 121 support has become apart of the fundermental structure of the business. It’s behind the whole new branding, the move from the Cambridge Diet to ‘The 1:1 Diet’.

Its like having an angel on your shoulder, whenever you need help. It’s someone in your corner helping you fight, and push through the tough times. Honestly, it’s the integral part that really makes a massive difference, and helps get you to your weight loss goals.

Scientifically Proven To Work

There have been numerous studies and research projects involving this diet.Another study providing it really works

These studies have categorically proven it’s effectiveness and ability to really make a fantastic difference to any weight loss journey.

One such trial, is known as DROPLET. (Doctor Referral of Overweight People to Low Energy Treatment). It’s well worth a read, and should be available from your Cambridge diet consultant, upon request.
